Emily's Reflection
When we first started this project, I was a little worried about what we were going to do. All the plans I was thinking up involved things like q&a sessions, information discussions and the like; things that heavily involved lots of speaking in front of people, which is something I am uncomfortable with. Thankfully, while we were discussing Out Youth and the library that they had (which has the second largest collection of LGBTQ+ literature (cite)), our teacher mentioned the idea of promoting awareness using a book display, which I was immediately interested in. I love books and reading, and books are a good way to spread ideas. Non-fiction and fact-focused books can spread factual information, while fantasy/fiction books can give people characters they can relate to, or situations that can teach different things. Thus, we started developing the plan of setting up books displays in several libraries. Through out the process, the plan would change slightly, expanding or scaling back as need to fit with our time constraints and the needs of the group. However, I feel as if our end result is a good product: we achieved our goal of raising awareness, and our project is a long-term event that will hopefully repeat every year.
For things I would change, I think we could have started the final take-action project a bit earlier, simply because towards the end of the year, things started piling up, with AP tests, and finals, and the AGS Ecuador trip, and it made things a little hectic. Starting earlier would have giving us more time to go to the schools, possible more than we actually did, and get everything done without having to worry about other things. Other than that though, I feel as if we have our end project was strong and achieved our purpose.
