Asexual and aromantic awareness is important to me because I identify an aromantic. I want to spread awareness that yes, asexuals and aromantics exist and that they are not ‘broken’ or ‘just haven’t met the right people yet’. Asexuality and aromanticism are still relatively unknown sexual/romantic orientations and I want to educate people about what they are and displace any myths people might hold. There are a lot of topics related to asexuality and aromanticism that people don’t seem to know much about – like romantic orientation and how it doesn’t always line up with a person’s sexual orientation, the asexual spectrum, and how asexuality and aromanticism aren’t the same things – that I think are important things for people to know to help them understand the subject of sexuality as it is an oft misunderstood topic.
